Marriage!

Gay marriage passed in New York yesterday!!!! Finally.

I don’t have a post to write about it, just an urge to share my excitement and relief.

Because I really, really, really enjoyed this:

Even though I ruined the rest of the night by throwing up.

I loved getting married, and being married is even better. It’s the best thing in my life.

The fact that so many people who love each other aren’t allowed to get married breaks my heart. It’s obviously cruel. It’s dehumanizing. It’s one of the truly terrible things left in our society and world. And this is a big step towards being fully human.

Unroast: Today I love the way I feel when I say my new name. I have so many names, and all of them are me.

I’m de-lurking to high five this post. I got married three weeks ago to say that it was awesome would be a gross understatement. I have always been a supporter of gay marriage, but now that I am married it breaks my heart to think there are so many couples that cannot (at least for now) experience the joy that I have just gotten to experience. I am so happy that New York moved past the bigotry in the name of love and equality.

The rest of the states will absolutely not be far behind! It’s time. It’s here. No more discrimination. Onwards and upwards!!!!! Thank you for celebrating Kate! I’m celebrating in Colorado with you and I’ll get busy in my own state to get equality for all here too. Yay!

HOORAY!!!!! i am SO happy. i cannot tell you how down right heartbroken i was when california banned gay marriage. it was shocking and uncomfortable and it made me feel so awful about living here (for a second or two). it’s funny because people assume california is such a gay-friendly place but in all actuality, we’re a fairly conservative state. i live in the bay area so i live in a more liberal space but that’s all it is — a space. i kind of live in a bubble in the aspect. so it’s weird for me to experience anti-gay sentiments. the one good part though? my aunts got married during the time when it was legal to marry so their marriage contract is valid. it’s like a big eff-you to the haters 🙂

also, the picture of you and bear is so freakin’ lovely. i’m so excited to get married :)!

But wait. Won’t people marry their goldfish and their bathtubs now?

I keep hoping they’ll just drop the whole issue… only for everyone. Meaning that if a couple wants to get married.. yay. Let them. If they want a civil union? Fine. If they just want to live together as domestic partners? Terrific.

Same health benefits, same family benefits… what’s the friggin’ problem?

To personalize the issue for me, I have two family members who aren’t allowed to marry their same sex partners. And it pisses me off. I could rant for hours on this subject.

It’s the first step in a journey, but an incredibly hard-fought, hard-won step. Thank you for acknowledging and celebrating with all of us who, for today at least, are rejoicing in the glow of equality!

America does not exist to DISenfranchise people.
For a country that so firmly emphasizes separation of church and state (and I challenge you to find a good non-religious reason to ban gay marriage), and boldy proclaims freedom and equality, the attempts to ban gay marrriage are incredible hypocrisy.
So, three cheers for the people of New York! And my the rest of the states follow soon.

I think you look very classically lovely in your wedding pictures with the long hair but there’s something about your new hair that’s more grown-up…maybe somewhere my brain translates short into edgy into daring into independent decision making into grown-up?

Anyway, I agree with the sentiment of the post!!! 😀
